Modulate your music with ocean waves

Background

Most LFOs currently available for purchase are based primarily on frequency (Hz) or note length, meaning they are controlled by precise, clock-like timing. However, natural phenomena around us, such as ocean tides or the swaying of trees, are not controlled by a clock but create their unique rhythms. Hamon is a tool designed to introduce a time axis not governed by a "clock" into your music.

Usage

Its basic usage is the same as [LFO] included with Ableton Live, but you can select up to five modulation destinations. The values of these LFOs are sampled from a simulated single water surface, so they are loosely correlated with each other. As a result, the outcome is different from simply using five independent LFOs.

Try assigning them to your favorite plug-in synth parameters (e.g., attack or release) or modulating granular effects or EQ with Hamon. You will be able to install a slow, oceanic movement in your music.

Installation

Simply download the .amxd (Max For Live device) and move it to your Max Audio Effect Preset folder within your User Library. The default location for this directory is as follows.

Windows:

\Users\[username]\Documents\Ableton\User Library\Presets\Audio Effects\Max Audio Effect

Mac:

Macintosh HD/Users/[username]/Music/Ableton/User Library/Presets/Audio Effects/Max Audio Effect

Version

1.1:

Bug fix: Fixed a bug where waves would become too large when running for extended periods. (In the next version, users will be able to access this parameter themselves.)
